National strike this Monday, January 13: here are all the expected disruptions

A major national strike is expected tomorrow, Monday January 13. As a result, many services will be disrupted.

Due to an action organized in the capital to protest against the pension reform of the next federal government, many services will be disrupted tomorrow. Concretely, what should we expect?

First of all, the public transport network in Brussels and Wallonia will also be disrupted. On its website, STIB explains: “The Brussels public transport company will do everything possible to ensure at least part of the service and will inform its travelers in real time of the situation on its network. She nevertheless invites people who are able to do so to plan alternative solutions for traveling to Brussels on that day.“.

Same story for the TEC: “The TEC will be able to inform travelers of the canceled routes on the morning of Monday January 13, subject to the information reaching it“. Both companies advise following the information on their site.

In addition to public transport, half of the European flights chartered by Brussels Airlines will not take off on Monday, the Belgian company announced on Saturday. “This event is likely to have a significant impact on, among others, baggage handling companies at Brussels Airport. The airport management therefore asked us to preventively cancel a significant number of flights“, explains Brussels Airlines in a press release. In addition, “we try to protect our long-haul flights as much as possible so that they can take place“, she wants to be reassuring.

Travelers affected by these cancellations and for whom the company has contact details will be contacted by Brussels Airlines and will be offered other flights.

Four out of ten flights canceled in Brussels

At least four flights out of ten on the schedule will not be operated on Monday at Brussels Airport due to a strike by staff of baggage handling companies, the company operating the Brussels airport said on Sunday. Security personnel should also take part in industrial action. Other flights could still be canceled.

The companies directly inform the passengers concerned. Each passenger is further requested to check the status of their flight before traveling to the airport.

For flights that are maintained, passengers must be on site in good time, namely two hours before for a flight within the Schengen area and three hours before for the rest of the world.

Delays expected at Charleroi airport

Charleroi airport operations risk being “strongly disturbed” Monday due to the action of the common union front against the pension reform of the next federal government. However, no cancellations are planned during this off-peak period, Carole airport spokesperson Nathalie Pierard said on Sunday.

“A priori, all flights will be operated on Monday but we expect delays” both in terms of departures and arrivals, continued the spokesperson for Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA). “It is currently estimated that the lack of staff, particularly on the ground, will be felt especially during the afternoon.”

For trains, the situation will be as follows:

One in 3 IC trains runs (trains that connect major cities)

One in 5 S and L trains runs

Most P trains (trains reinforcing supply during peak hours) do not run.

International trains should run normally.

So plan alternatives for tomorrow.
