This visit will be an opportunity for the two parties to strengthen their cooperation in various areas, notably economic and diplomatic, demonstrating the common desire to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The visit of the head of the Senegalese government comes in a particular context, marked by major progress in the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) cross-border gas project.
This project, one of the largest deepwater gas discoveries in West Africa, is being developed jointly by Senegal and Mauritania, in partnership with the Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH), Petrosen, bp, and Kosmos Energy. The GTA project is expected to produce approximately 2.3 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually.
During his stay with his Mauritanian neighbor, Ousmane Sonko will have working sessions with representatives of the private sector and will meet the Senegalese diaspora.
