National Assistance is deploying its 2024-2025 “Warm Winter” operation for the homeless.
The initiative, launched from the Bensouda Center, aims to provide assistance and comfort to homeless people, a population that is particularly vulnerable to the rigors of winter.
The operation, the fourth of its kind since the start of the winter season, saw the National Mutual Aid teams deploy in the darkest corners, where the homeless find refuge (abandoned buildings, deserted parks and other makeshift places ).
On site, the teams do not just distribute aid, they engage in dialogue with the people they meet, seeking to understand the circumstances that led them to the street.
A human and empathetic approach
The primary objective is to convince them to join the Bensouda Center, where they can benefit from medical care, hot meals and secure accommodation. This comprehensive care is essential to ensure their physical and psychological well-being, particularly during this winter period.
However, some homeless people are reluctant to leave their familiar, even precarious, environment. Aware of this reality, National Assistance is adapting its approach by offering alternative assistance. Mattresses, new clothes and food boxes are distributed on site, in order to provide them with a minimum of comfort and warmth.
Significant resources deployed
In partnership with local authorities, regional coordination has already carried out several similar actions. Hassan Otmani, the manager, recalls that the objective of these campaigns is to offer comprehensive assistance to people in difficulty, ranging from blankets and clothing to street health care. The regional coordinator emphasizes that substantial funds have been allocated to this operation.
Thus, an envelope of approximately 700,000 DH was released, including 500,000 DH provided by the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) and the rest by National Mutual Assistance. The teams mobilized for this operation highlighted its importance during this winter period. They stressed that it represents much more than simple material aid since it embodies a real glimmer of hope and vital support for the homeless people of Fez, allowing them to get through this difficult period with a little more dignity and human warmth.
Indeed, beyond the distribution of basic necessities, it is a message of solidarity and humanity that is addressed to these vulnerable populations, reminding them that they are not forgotten.
