Two trams collided in the tunnel leading to the stop serving Strasbourg station (Bas-Rhin), Saturday January 11 in the afternoon, announced the department prefecture. The accident causedat least 36 injured, according to a new report communicated Saturday evening by the Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, who specified that the accident did not cause any deaths and that none of the injured was in absolute emergency.
A little earlier, the director of the Bas-Rhin fire and rescue services, René Cellier, had announced a “fifty” of injuries in relative urgency, evoking in particular “scalp sores”a few “clavicle fractures” or even “a sprained knee.” During a press briefing, the mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian, explained that a “choc frontal” happened “following a reversing of a tram”. “Today, we do not know what caused this backward movement of the tram”she continued.
The two tram drivers were not “physically injured”, but are “extremely shocked”according to the general director of the city’s transport company, CTS, Emmanuel Auneau.
