Author of a very good start to the season with Toulon, Gaël Dréan admitted that the French XV was a dream but also that he was mainly focused on the matches to come with the RCT.
After recent uneven seasons, Toulon is regaining color this season. Indeed, currently 3rd in the Top 14, the Var club also won its first two Champions Cup matches. To partly understand this renewal of Pierre Mignoni’s team, we can particularly focus on the ranking of the best scorers in the French championship. Because, in the lead, tied with the Fijian Sireli Maqala (Bayonne), we find Gaël Dréan. In nine matches, the Breton winger has already made 10 tries, including a double recently against Racing 92 (36-24). Before the 3rd RCT European Cup meeting, this Sunday against Harlequins (at 2 p.m.), the latter spoke about his new status. “I wouldn’t say I feel stronger. I think it’s the people who focus a lot on these figures, these stats, these tests, in a way,” explained the native of Lorient.
Dréan remains focused on the RCT
“I’m not very different, let’s say, from last year’s player. I think it’s a combination of circumstances. (…) The XV of France? Honestly, I don’t really think about it. Because today, we are in both competitions with Toulon. We have important matches every weekend. I focus on what is happening in Toulon. And I admit that I think we already have enough to do here for me to get ideas. We already have to work here, Dréan subsequently declared, during an interview with RMC Sport. If it makes you dream? Obviously it’s a dream for every French rugby player. But I’m not going to talk much about this topic because there isn’t much to say. » As a reminder, Fabien Galthié will announce next week the list of 42 players summoned to Marcoussis to prepare for the first meeting of the 6 Nations Tournament of the French XV, against Wales (January 31, at 9:15 p.m.).
