It was the mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid, who published on Thursday on her social networks a screenshot of the rules of the Fatima Ino club for the event, informs El Pais. “No fights, drugs, caps, flip-flops… and p*”, we can read on the poster. It also states that any “irresponsible or aggressive” behavior will result in immediate expulsion. “Hate and homophobia have no place here and we will do everything in our power to ban this event and any club activity that promotes this regrettable attitude,” responded the city councilor.

After her post on Instagram, Margarita del Cid received several private messages of a racist nature from the club, according to municipal sources. “The legal services of the town hall and the LGTBI groups are informed and are working to put an end to this situation,” declared the mayor of Torremolinos who announced that she will file a complaint, personally and on behalf of the municipality , “for defamation and hate crime” against the promoters of the event before the national police station of Torremolinos and Benalmádena.

Torremolinos is one of the cities part of the Spanish Network of Destinations for Diversity and one of the favorites of the LGTBIQ+ collective for decades. The city hosts many celebrations such as Pride, which brings together over 30,000 people each year in June, as well as many other events and festivals throughout the summer. In addition, the Begoña crossing – which suffered a historic raid in 1971 – was declared by the Congress of Deputies as a place of historical memory and a cradle of LGTBI rights.
