The Northern Customs Department achieved an exceptional performance in 2024, reaching a record amount of 13.4 billion CFA francs for its customs revenue. A success which far exceeds the forecasts established by the State, set at 12 billion CFA francs.

Colonel Ousmane Kane, director of the Northern department, expressed his satisfaction with these results which he finds encouraging.

He praised, during an interview with the press, the joint efforts of customs agents, placing particular emphasis on the Rosso subdivision, described as the “engine” of the Regional Directorate.

In addition to reaching its objective before November 30, the Northern Customs Directorate recorded a significant increase compared to the previous year, when revenues did not exceed 9 billion CFA francs.

This progress is attributed to improved management of goods and exports, as well as a welcome visit from the General Directorate of Customs in the North, which boosted the morale and working conditions of agents.

The introduction of the Gaïndé System, initially implemented at the Rosso station, also played a fundamental role in this success. Although its impact was initially limited due to a transition phase necessary to reassure operators, the beneficial effects were fully revealed in 2024.

Anticipating a prosperous future, Colonel Kane announced the deployment of the Gaïndé system at the posts of Gourel Oumar Ly and Diama. This will accompany the imminent opening of the Rosso bridge and the future exploitation of gas. Two elements likely to boost the local economy and increase customs revenue.
