As part of a strategic partnership, on January 7, 2025, the United States delivered to the Senegalese National Gendarmerie a set of modern equipment intended to strengthen border security. These materials, worth more than $750,000 (more than 450 million CFA francs), include night vision goggles, GPS devices, helmets, ballistic shields as well as essential medical equipment.
The official handover ceremony was held at the Regional Tactical Training Center in Thiès. It highlighted the United States’ continued support for Senegal’s efforts to protect its borders and ensure the security of its citizens. This initiative is part of a four-year program aimed at improving the capabilities of the Senegalese security forces.
The main objective of this program is to develop effective collaboration to identify and counter cross-border threats, including illicit trafficking of drugs, weapons and humans. Through initiatives combining training and resource sharing, this partnership not only strengthens Senegal’s national security, but also contributes to regional stability.
The United States Ambassador to Senegal, Michael Raynor, expressed his satisfaction during the ceremony: “The United States is proud to support Senegal’s efforts to protect its borders by providing modern, high-quality equipment that will strengthen the operational capabilities of the National Gendarmerie.
