Pas-de-Calais: a minor indicted after hitting a mother and her baby, the infant in a coma

The infant’s vital prognosis is compromised. A 14-year-old teenager was indicted on Friday, two days after hitting the stroller of an eight-month-old baby with an unlicensed car, whose vital prognosis is in jeopardy, announced the prosecutor’s office.

Wednesday in Avion (Pas-de-), “an unlicensed vehicle (…) hit the stroller on a protected passage, throwing the child several meters” then fled, the prosecutor reported in a press release from Arras Sylvain Barbier .

Transported to University Hospital, the infant “suffers from serious head trauma. His vital prognosis is in jeopardy and he remains, to this day, in intensive care,” said the prosecutor. The child’s mother suffered a knee injury and was also taken to hospital in shock.

The alleged driver was identified, arrested and placed in police custody on Thursday, then indicted on Friday for “unintentional injuries with incapacity for more than three months by the driver of a land motor vehicle and hit and run”, for which he faces five years in prison, underlined the prosecutor.

The accused will also be subject to a provisional judicial educational measure. The custody of his passenger, also arrested, was lifted on Thursday at the end of the day, said the Arras prosecutor’s office.
