The authorities of the city of Tangier have installed dozens of surveillance cameras linked to new traffic lights in several intersections and roads.
The municipality of Tangier has reserved an envelope of 14 million dirhams to finance the project to extend the network of surveillance cameras in the city’s public spaces, as well as for maintenance operations and the associated electrical and network infrastructure.
This contribution from the municipality is part of a multi-party partnership agreement approved during the ordinary session of May 2024. The total cost of the project amounts to 56 million dirhams.
The objective of the project is to equip public spaces with camera surveillance systems, in order to enable the General Directorate of National Security to regulate traffic, repress offenses, fight against crime in the streets and protect public property.
Funding for the project is also provided by the Ministry of the Interior – General Directorate of Local Authorities (28 million dirhams) and the Council of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region (14 million dirhams).
-As part of this project, which will be carried out over three years by the Northern Regions Development Agency, the surveillance system in public spaces in the city of Tangier will include approximately 533 surveillance cameras.
It will include the creation of a fiber optic network, electrical infrastructure and the necessary coverage for cameras over 20 kilometers in 111 surveillance points, as well as the equipment of a control room with the equipment necessary for the optimal operation of the system. A data center will also be built and equipped.
