Ziguinchor, January 9 (APS) – The Ziguinchor Academy Inspectorate (south) recorded, in 2024, a school dropout rate of around 10% among girls, we learned on Thursday from the Gender Officer, Siga Diouf Fall.
“The Ziguinchor AI experienced, in 2024, a school dropout rate of around 10% among girls,” lamented the Gender Officer at the Academy Inspectorate, Siga Diouf Fall, in an interview with the APS.
In Ziguinchor, she stressed, “girls’ education is often hampered by the problem of early pregnancies and marriages but also by the numerous cases of violence against these girls in schools.”
“This constraint prevents girls from showing their talent and all their potential,” she regretted again.
However, she said, “in Ziguinchor, we are truly delighted with the notable progress in the field of girls’ education”.
She believes that the current fight “is the retention and success of girls in school”.
“There is a need to develop effective strategies aimed at keeping girls out of the way of all these scourges that threaten their careers,” underlined Siga Diouf Fall.
She noted that the synergy of actions between the different actors and partners allowed the Ziguinchor Academy Inspectorate to go beyond the enrollment milestone.
However, “we still need to fight against pregnancies, child marriages and violence in schools to further keep girls in school”, invited Ms. Fall, believing that the time has come to guide girls towards scientific and technical sectors.
She welcomes “the inclusive system already put in place in the Ziguinchor academy with the aim of finding a definitive solution to the equation of keeping girls in school”.
Siga Diouf Fall recalled that in Ziguinchor gender units are established in each establishment, from elementary to secondary.
At the Ziguinchor IA, the Network of Women Teachers works, through its annual action plan, to develop strategies for the success of girls at school, she welcomed.
