A police patrol surrounded by around forty individuals during an anti-drug check in the Matonge district

The patrol was checking individuals suspected of selling drugs, at the corner of Rue Francart and Chaussée de Wavre. The latter tried to flee but were quickly caught by the agents.

The police then found themselves surrounded by around forty people, “coming out of a nearby gallery. They then threw glass bottles and waste in the direction of the officers,” described spokesperson Ilse Van de Keere. In view of the “tense situation”, the police used “tear gas to maintain order”.
