Food Social Security launched in Ariège

It's an experiment, but with the desire to be long-term. A common food fund which will be launched in Ariège on January 18, with a shared meal at the Saverdun school. The idea is to allow everyone to have access to quality products, regardless of income, while supporting farmers and small businesses.

Each member of the CCAMPA (Common Food Fund of the Mountains and Plains Ariégeoises) receives 50 euros per monthto spend in around ten partner grocery stores in the department.

To operate, the fund uses the Social Security model. As with Social Security, everyone has access to it, and contributes according to their income. There minimum contribution is 2.5% of monthly income. 10 euros for the most modest.

It’s a pure question of solidarity Judge Renaud, the president of the CCAMPA: “there are people who skip meals, and who may not eat enough. And then there are also those who would like to have access to quality organic local products. We were aiming for 50 participants for the launch of the experiment, we already have around sixty candidates, so we are very happy“.

Also support farmers and small businesses

This fund also helps support local farmers and village businesses. The partner grocery stores were therefore chosen because they work with local products explains Nouria, the association's treasurer:“with these 50 euros, you can buy everything except alcoholic products. People are free to buy absolutely whatever they want, whether local or not local.

But the association's desire is to develop and run something around local food. And it’s also about discovering other distribution locations, other than supermarkets. This is very important to us. Bringing other types of businesses through the door“.

To get started, CCAMPA is helped with 20,000 euros by social organizations: CPAM, MSA and CAF. But she hopes to find the balance as quickly as possible, to operate only with members' contributions.
