During the summer of 2024, the bar-brasserie La Bacouette present on the green beach of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche) opposite the port Chantereyne, closed its doors.
In the process, the City which ensures the premises management on behalf of the Ports de Normandie joint association, launched a competitive tender to find a buyer.
Three applications rejected
Still to operate the same type of business, candidates had to come forward until September 30, 2024.
If three candidates presented themselves, “the cnecessary criteria requested – experience, quality of the project, eco-responsible approach, performance and reliability – were not combined,” assures Pierre-François Lejeune, deputy mayor in charge in particular of commerce.
A new concept?
The municipality is now showing itself to be cautious and reluctant, given the two previous failures which led the former managers, under temporary occupation agreement, to the judicial liquidation. She also imagines today a new concept“always in reflection”, to liven up this “living space” in which the City has invested.
For this, the operating model will be reviewed and would move from three-year agreement open only during the summer period, with an annual call for applications.
“We are thinking about the right legal form to adopt, but also about adding additional features, such as food trucks, to furnish the 100 m² terrace,” confides the deputy. “The goal is for the establishment to be open this summer. »
