Formula 1 announced this Wednesday morning the multi-year extension of the Belgian Grand Prix. But, this extension is a little special, because it will allow the Spa-Francorchamps circuit to host four races over the next six seasons. They will be held on the legendary route in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031 thanks to significant investments on the circuit in recent years.
The extension of Spa-Francorchamps is good news for many fans as well as for the drivers who greatly appreciate this classic track created in 1921. It has also been present on the Formula 1 World Championship calendar since the very first season of the sport in 1950 and has since hosted 57 Grands Prix.
The circuit saw three drivers from the current grid win over its 7.004 kilometers, making it the longest on the calendar. These drivers are Charles Leclerc, with his victory in 2019, Max Verstappen, with his three consecutive victories between 2021 and 2023, and Lewis Hamilton, holding five victories in 2010, 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2024. Lewis Hamilton is now only ‘one success away from equaling Michaël’s record for number of victories at Spa-Francorchamps Schumacher.
Following the announcement of the extension, Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of F1, reacted: “The Belgian Grand Prix was one of the races of our first championship in 1950.
