A 34-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Brétigny-sur-Orge (Essonne) during a police intervention and her husband was placed in police custody, the Evry prosecutor's office said on Wednesday. “The accused, who made incoherent comments at the time of his arrest, was placed in police custody on the charge of murder by spouse”detailed Grégoire Dulin, public prosecutor in Évry, in a press release.
Intervening during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday after being alerted by neighbors, the police initially heard a woman's screams, which were interrupted while they were waiting for equipment to enter the apartment, explained the parquet. According to the same source, a man “ended up quickly opening the door by throwing himself at them armed with two knives”before being subdued by the police, who then noted the presence of the woman, dead, in the bathroom.
Two children, aged 7 and 4 years old, were “sheltered in a suitable place”. The accused is 29 years old and had been convicted three times, notably for violence by his ancestor. In 2023, 96 women were victims of marital femicide in France, a figure down 19% compared to 2022, according to a report from the Ministry of the Interior published in November.
