New year, new slasher with Heart Eyeshorror film Scream directed by a regular in the genre, Josh Ruben.
At the height of its popularity, the American slasher genre was sometimes seasonal. Understand: it took as its theme a holiday or a time of year. Besides of course the saga of Friday the 13th or Halloweenwere treated Christmas (Sweet night, bloody night), the birthday party (Happy Birthday to me) and Valentine's Day (Valentine's Day Murders). More recently, fashion has returned thanks to Eli Roth and his funny Thanksgivingnot without irony this time.
Indeed, Scream has been there and it is now out of the question for the genre to take itself seriously. Especially since the 2020s and the very lucrative return of the saga of the late Wes Craven. While the Spyglass studio refines the chaotic production of Scream 7it continues to occupy the territory of horror comedy with young goons and masked killer. The next one is a pure seasonal slasher, which also takes place on Valentine's Day. The trailer for Heart Eyes has just been broadcaste.
Scream 6.5
A killer with a priceless look, a host of young screamers and a modus operandi that is original to say the least: the ingredients are there. Add a touch of the second degree announced straight away by the pitch – two colleagues who work overtime are wrongly stalked by a psychopath who chases couples on Valentine’s Day evenings – and you have the perfect recipe from the Spyglass studiobehind the last Screambut also… Thanksgiving.
Like Eli Roth, director Josh Ruben is not his first attempt: he had already directed Werewolves (a video game adaptation) and Scare Metwo horror comedies that went relatively unnoticed in France. And like Eli Roth, he likes to throw meat at the walls, since the last part of this trailer promises some delicious murders. Note that the comparison with Scream is not limited to Spyglass, since the casting includes Mason Goodingtough survivor of the last two parts of the franchise.
He is accompanied by Olivia Holt, starring in Totally Killer. And to complete the family photo of slasher 2.0, the screenplay is written by Phillip Murphy, Michael Kennedy and Christopher Landon, known for Happy Birthdead et Freakyother examples of the genre, comic and concept. Better yet, he was once involved in the production of… Scream 7 before its development turns to ” nightmare “in his own words. Heart Eyes will be released in US theaters on February 7. Nothing has been announced regarding the French release.
