After the investigation et the workshops made by libraries with the public user durant summer 2023of new opening hours will be put in place as of January 7, 2025 for the three libraries of the network (Jacques-Prévert, Louis-Lansonneur and Boris-Vian).

Libraries will go from 58.5 hours of cumulative opening hours to 72 hours.

The libraries of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin offer a free public service, whether it is the borrowing of documents or the numerous activities throughout the year. We wanted to adapt schedules according to user requests to promote access to public reading and reinforce the role of libraries as places of life and sharing for all.

From now on, the three libraries will open Wednesday morningin addition to the usual hours. In Boris-Vian, additional openings will be in place on Saturday afternoons and Friday afternoons, while the Jacques-Prévert library will benefit from an evening opening on Wednesdays until 7 p.m. (excluding holidays).

Finally, the Louis-Lansonneur and Jacques-Prévert libraries will open continuously Wednesday and Saturday.

Jacques-Prévert Library: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. (closing at 6 p.m. during school holidays); Saturdays: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; closed Mondays and Sundays.
Boris-Vian Library: Wednesdays and Saturdays: 10 a.m.-12 p.m. / 2 p.m.-5 p.m.; Fridays: 2 p.m.-6 p.m.; closed Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Boris-Vian digital space: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 2 p.m.-5 p.m.; Wednesdays and Saturdays: 10 a.m.-12 p.m. / 2 p.m.-5 p.m. (workshops); Fridays: 2 p.m.-6 p.m.; closed Mondays and Sundays.
Louis-Lansonneur Library: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays and Saturdays: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; closed Mondays and Sundays.
During school periods and school holidays (excluding summer holidays)
Jacques-Prévert Library: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. / 2 p.m.-5 p.m.; closed Mondays and Sundays.

New services implemented

In addition to the new timetables, the City of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin has implemented other new features pour improve the service offering. In fact, the loan rules have been simplified et harmonized across the entire network.

From now on, users will be able to borrow 50 documents whatever the library. THE internal regulations libraries has also been updated.

Another service launched at back to school 2024 : the documentary shuttle, which connects the different network equipment by circulating documents (books, CDs, vinyls, DVDs, magazines, e-readers), thus making them more accessibleto all library users.

The shuttle makes two trips per week. Thanks to the single library cardregistered users can bring in, borrow and return documents to any library in the City.
