What is the Swiss motorway sticker?

This is a fee for driving on Swiss motorways and semi-motorways. A motorway sticker, whether electronic or self-adhesive, is mandatory all year round. In the event of non-compliance, a fine of CHF 200.- is imposed, to which is added the compulsory purchase of the sticker.

What is the difference between the electronic sticker and the self-adhesive one?

The electronic sticker is distinguished by its association with the license plate, unlike the classic self-adhesive version, which is attached to the vehicle. This represents a major advantage for owners of interchangeable plates. In addition, if you change vehicle but keep the same plate, the electronic sticker remains valid. Finally, if the windshield is replaced, it is not necessary to purchase a new sticker.

How much does a motorway sticker cost?

The e-vignette and the self-adhesive sticker are the same price of CHF 40.-.

How long is a sticker valid for?

Each sticker is valid for a full calendar year, plus the month of December of the previous year and the month of January of the following year. For example, the 2025 vignette can be used from December 1, 2024 to January 31, 2026. Note that there is no vignette with a shorter duration.

Where to buy the motorway sticker?

  • Self-adhesive sticker : available in post offices, gas stations, customs offices, garages or online.
  • Electronic sticker : can only be purchased on the official website of the Confederation. Simply provide the vehicle category, country and registration number.
