Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, was asked about the possibility of seeing Zinédine Zidane succeed Didier Deschamps when he leaves in 2026. He kicked in by praising the skills of the former France playmaker. Blues.
The departure of Didier Deschamps from the French team in 2026 finally seems to open the door to Zinédine Zidane (52 years old). Without a club since the end of his adventure with Real Madrid in 2021, the former leader of the Blues has never hidden his ambition to sit on the Blues bench. His name has therefore returned, since Tuesday evening, as the natural candidate to replace his former partner at Juventus and in the selection with whom he was world champion in 1998. But Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation (FFF), does not does not want to risk this possibility yet.
Diallo has 'a lot of respect and admiration' for Zidane
“I will not enter into this debate,” he said in an interview with L’Equipe. “Didier has two years of contract and, out of respect for him, his staff and the players, the question of his succession does not arise today.” The head of the Federation assures that he does not yet have a deadline to open the file for Deschamps' replacement. That doesn't stop him from thinking the best of Zizou.
“It is one of the monuments of French football and world football,” he adds. It was he who contributed to this first star on our jersey. I have great respect and admiration for one of the greatest players in the history of football.”
Diallo also salutes his work as a coach on the Real Madrid bench where he won 11 titles (2016, 2017 and 2018), including three Champions League, during his two stints in 2016-2018, then 2019-2021. “I saw that he had very high quality results with Real Madrid,” Diallo soberly notes. “He has already won the most beautiful trophy, the Champions League, several times. So he has also demonstrated the extent of his talent there.”
