The company specializing in metal frames, and historically based in the Nay plain, is also present in the French Overseas Territories. Including … and its neighbor, Mayotte, ravaged by the passage of a cyclone more than 3 weeks ago.

This is not new since the Béarnaise company has been present there for 12 years, setting up its first foothold in Mayotte “during 2012 when a lot was awarded for the construction of the Majicavo penitentiary center”, recalls the communications department. of the group.

An achievement which, since then, has led to others, including “the headquarters of local television Mayotte Première”. This was followed by the construction of schools, a sports hall, and shopping centers, particularly in the island's capital, Mamoudzou. Also in the works: the construction of a middle school in 2025.

From Reunion

But, as we suspect, the recent cataclysm has put everything on hold. “Let’s say we take small steps […] For the moment, there, the most important questions concern survival, every day, and the reestablishment of various basic supplies,” comments Cancé.

At this time, therefore, “no deployment” envisaged. If this occurs, Cancé will operate from its Reunion base created in 2004. The Béarnais group has a large subsidiary in this territory, which employs around forty people, including “industrial capacity thanks to a 1,200 m2 workshop allows us to carry out metal framework work, sheet metal work, industrial metalwork”.

In the meantime, Cancé's expertise was requested, a few days after Christmas, during an interministerial meeting in the presence of the Prime Minister, François Bayrou. “It was a technical meeting on the subject of reconstruction. We act as a technical advisor, and we remain available to the authorities,” we are told.

“Our job is not to make houses but, if we are asked, we are capable of producing long-lasting works,” says Mathieu Déléant, director of the Cancé group. Which also reminds us that the current latency period could last, “Mayotte still being in a long holiday period” and the cyclone season is not over.

After this disaster, the state of mind is therefore rather one of wait-and-see, “and support for the populations”, underlines the leader.
