Oil production: Senegal is doing better than forecasts with Sangomar

The Senegalese Ministry of Energy announced on Tuesday, January 7, that crude production from the Sangomar offshore oil and gas field reached 16.9 million barrels in 2024, exceeding the initial target of 11.7 million. . Production from the Sangomar field, operated by Australian company Woodside Energy, began in June 2024, with the aim of producing around 100,000 barrels per day.

According to a press release from the ministry led by Birame Souley Diop, all producing wells were commissioned before the end of December 2024, thus ensuring their availability for connection to production lines, in accordance with an optimized schedule. The ultimate goal is to achieve a stable daily production of 100,000 barrels of crude oil, a key objective for the Senegalese economy.

A floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for the operated project commissioned in 2023. This state-of-the-art infrastructure helped optimize crude oil extraction and ensure rapid ramp-up of the site , thus contributing to the achievement of production objectives.

According to figures released last December, the Sangomar site produced 2.94 million barrels of crude oil in November, with all wells operational. Three cargoes (2.89 million barrels) were sold. Annual production, estimated at 15-16 million barrels, exceeds the target of 11.7 million, with a target of 100,000.
