The December 23 corresponds to the date of birth by Raymonde Dardenne. It was 100 years ago. Also, Monday December 23, 2024, the family gathered at the Saint-Laurent nursing home in Gorron in Mayenne to wish him a Happy birthday very special.
She was surrounded by her children, her 14 grandchildren and her 27 grandchildren.
Brecé
Born in Brecé, December 23 1924 on the Isle farm where she lived with her parents until the age of 12, she then left with her family to settle in to on a farm at a place called “La cour des Oyeres” in 1936.
She married Joseph Dardenne on September 7, 1943. She lived with her husband, in the commune of Aron, on the 32 hectare farm at the place “du Bignon”.
They will have 7 children whom she will raise while helping her mari. At that time everything was done without mechanicsit was necessary to mow, wilt the wheat crops with horses, milk the cows by hand, churn clods of butter.
“Mom was going to the wash house to wash the laundry. In the house there was no water or electricity, we did our school homework by kerosene lamp” confides one of his sons.
The children grew up and then got married. All these alliances gave birth to 14 grandchildren who knew appreciate the time who passed by their grands parents.
« Ma mother is a direct, hardworking, very welcoming woman.
She loved to gather all the members of the family and prepare them good little dishes whether at Easter or Christmas or for any other occasion like the barbecue that marked the end of summer.
It was a party that had existed since the 1980s,” says one of the children.
The dream of Raymonde was to live to be 100 years old. This wish has just come true. She moved to the Gorron nursing home in September 2024.
