The town of Damparis, located in Grand Dole, took a drastic decision at the start of 2025 by deciding to cancel its traditional New Year greetings ceremony: “In these difficult times, this year's greeting ceremony will not take place», announced Mayor Michel Giniès, one of the rare Jura city councilors classified on the left.
A traditional meeting at the start of the year, the greetings ceremony is an opportunity for municipalities to bring together the “living forces”, to congratulate themselves on the projects carried out and to announce those to come.
Humanitarian actions
That is to say a first-class social gathering on the scale of a village that the Damparis municipal council has therefore decided to ignore in 2025. This year therefore, no petits fours drizzled with crémant for the Damparisians but the money as well saved will not be lost for everyone.
Failing this, the corresponding funds will be directed to social actions of the municipality, particular attention will be paid to the budget of the Municipal Social Action Center (CCAS) and to humanitarian actions including an urgent one for Mayotte following the cyclone murderer who hit her
For Mayotte
The situation in Mayotte has, it seems, strongly challenged the elected officials of the municipal council who propose to engage the municipality and the inhabitants in a strong solidarity initiative.
“We decided to award a exceptional grant to Secours populaire of 500 euros testimony to the municipality's commitment to the affected populations. This subsidy is reinforced by a call for public generosityvia municipal communication channels,” assures Michel Giniès.
It remains to be seen whether other Jura municipalities will follow the example of Damparis.
