This Saturday, January 4, 2025, the Senegalese Basketball Federation (FSBB) carried out the draw for the National 1 Women’s Championship for the 2024-2025 financial year. The City of Dakar, reigning champion, is in pool A and its vice-champion, the DUC, in pool B.
The municipal team, which dominated the championship last season with 23 victories in as many matches, will put its title on the line next weekend for the opening of the new season. Even if teams like the DUC or the JA can compete with them, the partners of Couna Ndao will be the favorites for their own succession.
With the exception of the championship, ASC Ville de Dakar had accomplished the grand slam by winning the League Cup, the Mayor’s Cup and the Senegal Cup. It is important to remember that this season, Malick Goudiaby will be the coach of the municipal team replacing Moustapha Gaye who will be the technical director.
The vice-champion is in group B, the Dakar Université Club which lost in the championship final the previous season. It is certain that the student team will look to return to the forefront this season after a mixed season last year with one final contested in four.
Joan of Arc, finalist of the 2024 Senegal Cup, is also part of this group. The old lady will aspire to surpass her previous campaign by winning at least one trophy. Anthioumane Ly will coach the JA this season, replacing Dame Diouf. The championship will begin on Saturday January 11, 2025.
