Wildlife. A new pair of white-tailed eagles observed in Moselle

At the Parc de Sainte-, in nearby , at the beginning of July 2024, the aviary saw the arrival of a pair of white-tailed eagles (or sea eagles): Toundra, born in 2013 at Puy du Fou in Vendée, and Bolshoi, born in 2016 at Veldhoven Zoo in the Netherlands. Superb individuals who have taken up residence in this beautiful animal park located in the town of Rhodes.

surprise a few months later, at the end of December 2024, when a new pair of white-tailed eagles were seen in the wild in the immediate vicinity of the Parc de Sainte-Croix. At the so-called Cormorans pond, on December 27 around 2 p.m., it was a regular visitor to the area who observed two imposing birds circling in the sky (and scaring away the ducks and other birds present in the area). After several minutes of flight, the two majestic birds of prey landed on trees in front of the pond. An exceptional moment – even if it is not a first since 2006 – because there are only seven or eight nesting pairs throughout . The hope therefore of a return of the species to Lorraine and/or Alsace.
