The Collective of School Directors of Senegal (CDES) expressed its concern regarding the non-payment of operating budgets allocated to elementary schools in a press release published by Sud Quotidien. This collective, which defines itself as a proposal and consultation body engaged in the transformation of education, strongly challenged the authorities concerned.
Since 2018, according to the press release relayed by the Sud Quotidien website, elementary schools in Senegal have not received the necessary funds for their regular operation, thus causing serious difficulties in the management of establishments. According to the CDES, this situation negatively impacts the administrative and financial management of schools, hindering the role of school directors, considered essential in the education system.
Despite a meeting in August 2024 in Thiès bringing together the managers of the 59 Education and Training Inspectorates (IEF) as well as those responsible at the central level, where a significant announcement concerning the imminent return of budgets had been made, the situation remains unchanged, the press release indicates.
