A major reform is in preparation to regulate digital advertising in Senegal. The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Alioune SALL, announced this Friday, January 3, that a new law aimed at modernizing the current legislation, considered outdated by technological developments, will soon be presented to the National Assembly. This law will notably include an important component: the remuneration of content creators on popular platforms such as TikTok and Facebook.

The main objective of this reform, in the opinion of Minister Aliou Sall, is to respond to the challenges posed by the rise of social networks and digital advertising. With the explosion in the use of platforms like TikTok and Facebook, more and more Senegalese are getting involved in the creation of content that generates substantial income, particularly through advertising. However, current legislation does not take into account the growth of these new digital practices and the income they generate.

The upcoming law therefore aims to modernize the legal framework in order to adapt it to this rapidly expanding reality. It could provide answers to important questions regarding the rights of content creators and the management of online advertising.
