The CDT calls for an urgent solution

New episode of the Samir affair at the start of 2025, the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) renews its commitment and in a meeting held on 31 December, at the union headquarters in Mohammedia, the CDT takes stock of the rescue of the refinery and calls for an urgent solution before it is too late.

Like an Indian saga which refuses to deliver the end to the spectator, the Samir affair resurfaces with the start of 2025. Indeed, the members of the General Assembly of CDT affiliates of the SAMIR company, gathered last Tuesday at union headquarters in Mohammedia, reopen this file “thorny ».

In a press release, they expressed their determination: “Aafter discussing the worrying situation and considerable losses resulting from the cessation of production at SAMIR since August 2015 following its liquidation, as well as the deplorable social conditions of official employees and retirees of the company , without forgetting the negative repercussions on local development in Mohammedia“, the defenders of this issue refuse to throw in the towel.

They reaffirm their commitment to the resumption of oil refining at the Mohammedia refinery without further procrastination or unjustified delays, especially since all the justifications put forward by the government to avoid intervention in favor of a solution have been lifted, particularly with the end of the international arbitration procedure. Thus, they call on the Moroccan government to abandon its passive position on the SAMIR issue and to work actively to restart production at the Moroccan oil refinery, through all possible solutions, in particular the sale with compensation of debts for the benefit of the Moroccan state.

In an era where pump prices are a roller coaster, a revival of local refining seems to resolve these problems… Faced with the unstable and unpredictable international context, it is imperative to strengthen national sovereignty in all areas, including production and the transformation of national energy needs, where fossil fuels represent more than 52%. Aware of these data, the members of the CDT insist “on the need to revive oil refining in Morocco, connect the refinery to the natural gas network, develop petrochemical industries and recover all the benefits lost following the cessation of oil refining activities ».

Another element which suffered so much from this suspension, the company’s employees… A key element of the relaunch, the said press release indicates that “The development and preservation of human skills in the oil industries constitute an essential condition for the development of this sector. This requires serious attention to the degraded situation of SAMIR employees and retirees, by regularizing their pension contributions, paying them their rights and applying the collective agreements in force.“. It is also crucial to restore normal salary payments, maintain the internal stability of the company and comply with applicable organizational procedures.

Furthermore, the members of the CDT reaffirm their determination impervious to any attempt at manipulation: “Our determination to continue the fight within the union, using all available means to save SAMIR, protect its interests and preserve its related rights, is tireless. ». Thus, they urge all people concerned about the interests of this country to support and contribute to any initiative aimed at reactivating refining at the Moroccan oil refinery, strengthening Morocco’s energy sovereignty, limiting abuses linked to the surge in fuel prices, and to restore all the achievements and privileges linked to this industry, founded since the country’s independence.
