The end-of-year celebrations result in high waste production. Especially since sorting is not always a priority or obvious for everyone. Between trees, decorations, gift wrapping and leftover food, it's difficult to navigate.

More and more trees collected
The company recalls that “thanks to the simplification of the sorting process deployed in almost all of France”gift wrap, whether paper or plastic, is recyclable, including bubble wrap and ribbons. For toy packaging, which mixes cardboard and plastic, Citeo suggests “Separate the cardboard part and the plastic shell carefully before sorting”.
It’s also the beginning of the end for the fir trees. In Ballan-Miré, the collection has already started. The City's communications director, Nathalie Bonneau, talks about “premature” deposits while recalling that collection at the Clément-Ader parking lot, near the cemetery, will last until January 19, 2025. This is the fifth time that it is organized by the town hall and is very successful: 190 m3 fir trees were recovered in January 2023; 200m3 in January 2024.
The City of La Riche has also communicated its collection points on its website: from December 26 to January 20, fir bins are installed in the town (rue du 11-Novembre-1918, promenade de Turcie, place Sainte-Anne , Bialy gymnasium and the Carré d'O swimming pool). “The fir trees are intended to be crushed for mulching green spaces, so they must be bare and natural, without stems, without decoration and without bags”recalls Nathalie Bonneau.
The recycling centers are green
The rules are the same at La Riche and Montbazon (until January 13 in the Val de l'Indre parking lot and Place de Bel Air). Tours Métropole is organizing a door-to-door collection Monday January 6 and Thursday January 9 (for Tours-center and Tours-sud). The conditions are similar: “Thank you for displaying your natural fir trees in front of your home. »
The seven recycling centers in the Metropolis also receive the fir trees to make them “mulch or compost elements”.
Christmas trees for farm animals
Between Lignières-de-Touraine and Azay-le-Rideau, Lucie Halbant offers a collection point for fir trees to feed the animals of her future educational farm, which will open its doors “as soon as we have finished our work”at the beginning of February, she hopes. The place is located “rue des Complans, at the exit of Lignières” she specifies on Facebook. These trees are lovely gifts for the goats, donkeys and llamas on the farm (1). “They like it, it’s natural and it’s a delicious food supplement” explains Lucie.
