Everything happened very quickly. Monday December 30, an attempted burglary took place at Motoland, in Rivery, in the Somme. Fifteen people tried to enter the store to steal two-wheelers, as reported by France Bleu Picardie.
Around 7 a.m., they broke through the gate and entered the parking lot in four vans and two cars. According to initial information, the vehicles were all stolen since they had false registration plates.
The suspects then try to enter the store. “They tried to cut the door with a thermal chainsaw. It is a tool with large discs of 50 centimeters in diameter, which is usually used to cut roads“, specifies Éric Duminy, the manager.
But very quickly, they were slowed down in their project. Because the alarm goes off and the remote monitoring company notifies the police who intervene within three minutes. One of the burglars tries to flee and rushes towards one of the police officers, who fires his service weapon at the car, without causing any injuries. Seven people are then arrested. “They saved us from the worst, thanks to them“, emphasizes the store owner.
Contacted, the prefecture services greet “the responsiveness of the police who quickly foiled the attempted burglary” : “Their courageous and effective intervention made it possible to quickly arrest seven individuals with the assistance of the national gendarmerie. The investigation continues under the authority of the prosecution.“
For his part, the store owner said to himself:satisfied” of his remote surveillance system. Éric Duminy had just invested €15,000 in security: “I've had the store for 23 years. Before, there were burglaries from time to time. Now it is a more common phenomenon. In 2024 alone I have had 2 burglaries and this attempt. In total, 21 dirt bikes were stolen from me last year. That's a lot and above all, they are more and more equipped.“The manager and his partner now intend to further strengthen the protection of the building and increase the number of night patrols.
