What happened? This Wednesday, January 1, two hikers died in the Pyrenees after a fall, CNEWS learned from the gendarmerie and the Guadens public prosecutor's office this Thursday. According to our information, the first victim is 34 years old while the 2nd is 46 years old.
The two accidents are not linked or simultaneous. They are caused by “the appearance of icy conditions as a result of heavy snowfall”.
According to the public prosecutor, the first incident occurred around 9 a.m. when the 34-year-old woman, equipped with crampons and accompanied by a group of three people, fell 200 m. The 2nd incident occurred around 3 p.m. at the same passage. The victim, the 46-year-old woman, was not equipped, specifies the public prosecutor.
-An autopsy of the two bodies was carried out, concluding that there was no third party intervention. “It was not a particularly technical place,” noted the Saint-Guadens prosecutor's office, recalling that since the events, the passage has been prohibited.
