Since January 1, the canton of Neuchâtel has only 24 municipalities, compared to 62 in 2008. The latest merger to date, Hauterive, St-Blaise, Enges and La Tène merged to give birth to Laténa, a municipality of approximately 11,000 inhabitants.
On December 12, the authorities of Laténa approved the first budget of the new municipality, which provides for a profit of around 50,000 francs, for 62.7 million in expenses and 25.4 million in investments. Among the latter, major works are already underway, such as road repairs or the construction of colleges.
As planned during the vote on the merger in November 2023, the tax coefficient was set at 68%. It was previously 79% in Enges, 70% in Hauterive, 66% in Saint-Blaise and 69% in La Tène.
Commissions open to non-elected officials
According to Arcinfo, with a participatory aim, the general councilors have chosen to open certain commissions to non-elected people, such as those dealing with town planning or mobility.
These members of civil society, who must have the right to vote, will be proposed by the groups to the General Council, in proportion to their political strength.
Third merger for Thielle, Wavre, Marin and Epagnier
This is the third consecutive merger for the villages of Thielle and Wavre. Neighboring barely a kilometer, the two localities joined together in 1888 to form the new commune of Thielle-Wavre.
In 2009, Thielle-Wavre merged with Marin-Epagnier (also from two distinct communities united in 1888) to form La Tène, which in turn merged in 2025 with Hauterive, St-Blaise, Enges to form Laténa.
