The story revealed by La Dépêche du Midi is comical to say the least. On the night of Sunday December 29, 2024, burglars broke into an apartment in Castres (Tarn) by climbing up to a window, out of sight.

While they search the premises, they make an unexpected discovery: an envelope of cash on which the identity of the owner of the accommodation is written. And then, problem: the thieves understand that they know their victim. “She is even an eminent member of the Muslim community of Castres, known and respected” reports the local daily.

Immediate backpedaling for the climbers who decide at the last moment to abandon their loot on site accompanied by a little note of apology: “Forgive us, we didn't steal anything.”An investigation is open to identify the burglars. Faced with an increase in burglaries in recent weeks, the police are urging the population to be particularly vigilant.
