Modeled and designed by the Land of Art and History of Clos du Cotentin, five information folders on the history of the Alleaume church have just been installed at the entrance to the church. Initially planned to be put in place on the occasion of the concert which was held on July 8 in this church, as part of the Concerts Valognais, they could not be carried out in time. From now on, they can be discovered at any time, since the Alleaume church is open during the day, by accessing it through the small red door to the left of the choir.
A collaboration between the town hall and the Land of Art and History
Present to celebrate the installation of these dispensers were Françoise Griffon, president of the Valognais concerts and Françoise Folliot of the same association, Françoise Thurat, deputy to the town hall responsible for culture and heritage, as well as Julien Deshayes, head of the Pahcc and Amandine Allier, work-study student.
Julien Deshayes wanted to express, once again, the excellent collaboration between the town hall and the Land of Art and History.
We are pleased to see all the work that the town hall is carrying out to make these heritage places alive, which the population can make their own. Churches and chapels are cultural places open to all, due to the quality of the works of art and the sources of information they represent. The Pahcc aims to provide information supports to contribute to welcoming the public.
Admire the beauty of the church
Not only will these rollers inform visitors, but they will also be an opportunity to encourage them to admire the beauty of this church, which is listed as a historic monument. Originally Romanesque, and heavily reworked from the 13th to the 18th century, its 18th century altarpiece in a hemicycle, decorated with four statues from the Valognes factory (Manche), in Pieux kaolin, two musical angels in wood as well as a painting representing the Assumption is particularly remarkable.
Françoise Thurat, for her part, praised the remarkable work carried out by the municipal technical services for the maintenance of the municipal heritage, and in particular here in Alleaume, which paved the entrance to the church in place of an old cemented driveway.
Julien Deshayes was keen to point out again, regarding this church, that there remains, above a walled door which opened onto the southern crosspiece, a sculpted lintel from the 11th century, which would be the oldest Romanesque vestige of the Cotentin (around 1040-1050), on which the apostles Peter and Paul are depicted, the mystical lamb holding the cross, with the dove of the Holy Spirit. This lintel is the emblem of the Pahcc which made it the header of its website.
