What happened under this bridge in the 16th arrondissement of Paris? This Thursday morning, the lifeless body of a minor, originally from Afghanistan, was discovered under the Iéna bridge, a few dozen meters from the Eiffel Tower. Emergency services intervened to take care of the young man, but he had already died.
According to a police source, the young man suffered a cardiac arrest. However, we do not know what caused this shutdown. Was this minor living on the street? Was he beaten? Or was he the victim of an overdose? All these questions remain, for the moment, unanswered. Following this discovery, the Paris prosecutor's office indicates that it has opened an investigation “to investigate the causes of death”. An autopsy must be carried out this Friday to try to determine what could have caused the death of the young miner.
More than 2,000 children are forced to sleep in the street according to Unicef France and the Federation of Solidarity Actors (FAS), at least 2,043 children – including 467 aged under 3 – remained on the night of 19 to August 20 without an accommodation solution following their family's request to 115, the emergency number for homeless people. In October 2023, 3,000 street children were recorded.
