Every year, New Year's Eve is witness to multiple offenses and 2025 is no exception. According to initial figures, nearly a hundred cars were set on fire during the night of December 31 to January 1 in Lyon and the Rhône.
Nearly a hundred cars burned
In detail, this would concern around 20 cars in Lyon, particularly in the 8th arrondissement. The municipalities of Vaulx-en-Velin, Rillieux-la-Pape, Givors and even Vénissieux and Villefranche-sur-Saône were also affected.
According to our colleagues from Le Progrès, the police were also victims of projectile throwing in various municipalities in the Rhône. An individual was also arrested in the Minguettes district, in Vénissieux, in possession of a handgun. No officers were injured. Still according to our colleagues, five arrests were made, three of which were linked to vehicle fires.
As a reminder, a two-year-old girl was also hit in the eye by a fireworks mortar last night on Place Bellecour. Although her life is not in danger, the young child would present a “risk of permanent disability”. No arrests have yet been made.
