Faced with the growing anarchy in the taxi sector, marked by scenes of violence and disorder which tarnish the image of the Kingdom, Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, has taken firm measures to modernize this essential activity. A circular was sent to walis and governors, urging them to restructure the taxi sector, large and small, and improve the quality of services.
The document emphasizes the renewal of the vehicle fleet, the establishment of modern means of communication such as a telephone number and an email address to collect complaints from users, as well as the introduction of meters to guarantee fair pricing.
The minister deplores that the sector is plunged into total disorganization, due to lack of a coherent and sustainable strategy. He criticizes the temporary solutions implemented during major crises, often amplified by the broadcast of videos on social networks, as was observed in Rabat and Tangier.
Walis and governors are therefore called upon to rigorously apply a series of directives to restore order and guarantee the security of citizens. Coercive measures will also be put in place against offenders.
-In this circular, the importance of driver training is also highlighted, in order to strengthen their skills and professionalism, while generally improving the services offered. This reform aims not only to regulate the sector, but also to make it a real lever for modernizing urban mobility.
