Their lack of discretion combined with the sagacity of a walker caused their downfall. On December 19, police officers from the Melun Val de Seine national police station were alerted to the suspicious behavior of three men busy dismantling the dashboard of a Renault Captur in a parking lot in the Rougeau forest. When a patrol arrives on the scene, the trio climbs into a Renault Megane and sets off with a bang. A chase begins. It ends in Essonne, at Morsang-sur-Orge, when the fugitives run out of fuel. They were then apprehended while trying to escape on foot.
An eventful arrest which will allow investigators from the property crime group to resolve several cases which had landed on their desks. Gloves, pliers and five car keys were found in the Megane. These correspond to vehicles stolen from the Renault dealership in Cesson on the night of December 15 to 16, just like the Megane. Thanks to subsequent investigations, the police managed to establish that the three men arrested also stole two delivery vans from a company in Brie-Comte-Robert.
They also realize that the night before the burglary at Renault, the trio also managed to enter Chronopost in Montereau-sur-le-Jard to rob containers full of packages in the run-up to Christmas. With cars and vans, the total damage would amount to several hundred thousand euros. Only the Megane and the Captur in which the trio were working to remove the GPS tracker in the parking lot were able to be recovered.
The three suspects, aged 19, 20 and 21 and living in Savigny-le-Temple and Brie-Comte-Robert, all known to the police, initially began by denying before partially admitting the facts. In their phones, investigators found videos filmed at the scene of the burglaries. Referred to the Melun public prosecutor's office, the two oldest were placed under arrest warrant until their trial next February. The youngest was placed under judicial supervision while awaiting the hearing.
