the essential
On January 2, 2025, Lucas Corcuera, alias Corc, published his first work, “Bestia”. A comic strip with Japanese influences.

Pen in hand, Lucas Corcuera is already working on his next work: the second volume of Beast. Volume I will be available on January 2 in all bookstores. A 219-page comic book. “This is the story of Jacquie, a hunter of Beast. They are enigmatic monsters that make the city of Cecropias hell. She meets Kevyn, with whom she goes on an adventure.” The pitch is given. A story mixing science fiction and fantasy, genres that Corc, his pseudonym, particularly likes. “A Blade Runner southern version of ,” he laughs.

Indeed, originally from , he drew on the city of Jasmin to design this futuristic city. “A hybrid work, a synthesis of the numerous references that I have accumulated and reinterpreted.” Thus, we perceive nods to Attack on Titanto the epic universe of Star Wars and the exhilarating adventures of shonen like One Piece. Above all, the manga Akiraa true pillar of the literary culture of Corc.

A patchwork of his creations

After studying architecture in , the thirty-year-old returned to Lot-et-Garonne, joining a practice. At the same time, he continued drawing, having grown up with a quill in his hand. “I found some boards that I made when I was very little.” Then, a few years ago, the desire was too strong. The need too deep. He starts. So, on the internet, he perfected his art. Half a dozen stories later, he shares his work. Quickly, a link was created with the publishing house “Les Humanoïds Associés”. They are behind the magazine in particular Screaming Metal.

“I create the characters according to my desires, and I build the story around them in a second step. For example, for BeastI had already drawn giant animals in an urban landscape. Same for the characters. I drew on my creations to imagine this universe”, unfolds the author. Jacquie, the heroine, appears on the cover, armed with a bow. A reference to Princess Mononokefrom Studios Ghibli. His sidekick, Kevyn, is more airheaded and asks fewer questions. “I noticed that the central point of the story ultimately is the evolution of their relationship,” slips Lucas Corcuera.

Lots of excitement

Lucas clarifies that he did not seek to transmit a specific message: “There is no particular commitment, it is not made aware.” However, he leaves the reader free to interpret the work in their own way. A summary of the influences of Corc, insatiably curious. He doesn't have time to think, in his office there are drawn boards and those worked on tablets intertwined. “The two ways are different with their pluses and minuses. In my opinion, it is complementary.”

The second volume has already been signed for next June. “It’s a real source of pride, there’s a lot of excitement.” Also, next February, readers will be able to discover seven new boards from Corc in the prestigious Métal Hurlant magazine.
