A marathon evening was organized at the Andelys village hall (Eure) on the occasion of World Volunteer Day, Thursday December 5, 2024.
For the occasion, the Eure Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee (CDOS27) and the Departmental committee of medalists for youth, sports and community involvement (CDMJSEA 27) honored all those who give their time to advance society.
These volunteers who voluntarily and freely devote part of their time to a cause, an association, a charitable organization or sometimes even to a particular event.
Sylvain Villa, president of CDOS27, launched the evening with a speech:
“Volunteering is an essential pillar of community and sporting life. Giving your time and energy without expecting anything in return is a deeply human and selfless commitment that contributes to the richness of our associative fabric, but also to social cohesion.”
Frédéric Villeroux guest of honor
Then Sylvain Villa presented the guest of honor, Frédéric Villeroux. Captain of the French blind Football team, Frédéric Villeleroux offered the most beautiful medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games to his teammates by scoring the winning shot on goal in the final against Argentina.
Michèle Schaeller, president of CDMJSEA 27, then took the floor and quoted Henry de Montherlant: “Generosity is always self-sacrifice, it is its essence”.
She then recalled that the 39 volunteer diplomas of honor awarded that evening were intended to reward them. “It is by recognizing their dedication, their availability and their concern to serve the general interest that we will facilitate their succession and encourage the commitment of the youngest.”
Then, Charles Giusti, prefect of Eure, then delivered a speech highlighting volunteering.
The 39 recipients were called, in three waves, to come to the stage to receive their diploma, a metal tray bearing the image of the FFMJSEA, and a bottle of cider.
