The team of football of Pléhédel (Côtes-d’Armor) was recreated 2 years ago after leaving the Avenir du Goëlo agreement. Currently leading in D3, tied on points with Lézardrieux B, but with one game in hand, the team is off to a very good start to the championship.
Wanting to recreate a friends clubthe players have in fact relaunched Pléhédel sport. Under the leadership of Anthony Richard, they had a perfect start to the season and beaux exploits in coupe with, the icing on the cake, a French Cup round against Lannion (N3).
Interview with the red and black tactician.
Why did the club leave the Avenir du Goëlo agreement?
I was not present at that time, but I think it was to find a club identity, closer to our current values, and a certain independence.
How long have you been at the club and have you felt any progress?
I arrived at the beginning of June. Yes, it’s a real evolution since my arrival. Whether it’s mentality, cohesion, the desire to progress together and to invest all week in training. There is real progress from week to week. The atmosphere is great! We are first in the group.
“We must not get excited”
Are you playing for the title and the climb?
Of course yes. We never hid it. Our priority is the climb. The championship title would be the holy grail. But we’re only halfway there, so we shouldn’t get excited. The road is still long.
You have completed a beautiful sectional journey. Would you be better off in D2?
It is true that we beat teams like Plouézec (D2) (twice in the French and departmental cup), Pommerit (D1) in the French cup, Trédrez (D2) and Pédernec (D2) in the departmental cup. No, we are in our place. A simple D3 club which just aims to experience the joys of victory, weekend after weekend.
In your opinion, will there be a key moment in this championship?
As I said before, we are only halfway there. We will have to be consistent and of course beat our direct competitors.
What more do you need to perform well?
Not much. Just stay humble and continue with the same mindset.
Do you have even bigger long-term ambitions?
No more than that. We would like to perpetuate the club in D2. Above all, keep our values and continue to progress together. The ambitions will come from the players themselves to take pleasure in evolving together. We must also salute the work of our office, which fights and works as hard as possible to allow players to flourish within our club.
