The national karate team finished in third place on the podium at the discipline’s Arab championships, which ended Saturday in the Jordanian capital Amman.
The national team climbed to the 3rd step of the podium after collecting 20 medals, including 6 gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze, while Egypt won with 51 medals (32 gold, 13 silver and 6 bronze). Second place went to Jordan with 91 medals (15 gold, 25 silver and 51 bronze).
The precious metal was gleaned by Said Oubaya (-67 kg), Ilyas Laafou (+70 kg), Ahmed Haddadi (-60 kg), Souhaib Azizou (-57 kg), Wadie Bennouri (-61 kg) in kumite and Adam Rachuk in kata. The silver medals were won by Nissrine Brouk (-68 kg), Chaimae Hayati (-55 kg), Ahmed Haddadi (-60 kg) in kumite and by Tijani Lamoum in kata.
The bronze medals were won by Douae Choukri (-61 kg) in the senior and U21 categories, Salma Sour (-55 kg), Rabie Zaoudi (-68 kg), Roumaissae Tarkou (- 53 kg) in kumite and by Aya En-Nesyry, Israe El Kahri, Tijani Lamoum (juniors) and Adam Rachouk (juniors) and by the national team women’s team kata.
The national colors were defended in the men’s kata events by Tijani Lamoum and Adam Rachouq, and the women’s by Aya En-Nesyry, Israe El Kahri.
In total, they included Mehdi Sriti (-84 kg), Said Oubaya (-67 kg), Ahmad Haddadi (-60 kg), Wadie Bennouri (-61 kg), Rabie Zaoudi (-68 kg), Souhaib Azibou (- 67 kg) and Ilyas Laafou (+70 kg).
As for the women’s events, the Kingdom was represented by Douaa Choukri (-61 kg), Roumaissae Tarkou (- 53 kg), Nissrine Brouk (-68 kg), Salma Sour (-55 kg) and Chaimae El Hayti ( -55 kg).
The Arab Karate Championships saw the participation of 330 athletes representing Morocco, Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Kuwait, Palestine, in addition to Jordan, the country host.
