A meeting devoted to examining the various preventive measures intended to deal with the risks linked to heavy snowfall, as announced in the latest alert bulletin from the General Directorate of Meteorology, was held on Friday in Ifrane .

This meeting, chaired by provincial director of the Ministry of Equipment and Water in Ifrane, Abdelali Azmi, focused on the various measures intended to protect populations in areas likely to experience heavy snowfall and rains.

In a statement to MAP, Azmi indicated that a series of measures have been taken to prepare for the snowfall expected from Saturday and for the winter season, in particular with the maintenance of machines, including 12 snow plows. , 5 snow blowers, 3 mobile cranes, a grader and a backhoe loader.

The goal is to open the roads during snowfall to traffic, knowing that the province has 800 kilometers of road, most of them strategic, of which 550 kilometers are exposed to more or less heavy snowfall, explained the provincial official.

For his part, the head of the equipment park at the Provincial Directorate of Equipment, Oubiji M’Barek, indicated that maintenance work on snow removal machines had been started since last August with technical visits generalized to identify the various breakdowns and technical anomalies and establish purchase orders for the refill parts essential for the repairs carried out since then.

Everything is ready and all the machines are in good working order to begin the snow removal campaign for this 2024-25 winter season, he assured.

Snowfall on heights exceeding 1,500 m is forecast from Saturday to Monday, and a cold snap is expected in several provinces of the Kingdom, indicated the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) in a level alert bulletin. “orange” alert.

Thus, snowfall (20-40 cm) is expected in the provinces of Midelt, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Taroudant and Ouarzazate.

The same phenomenon (10-20 cm) is expected during the same period in the provinces of Ifrane, Chichaoua and Boulemane.

Temperatures between -05 and 01°C are expected, from Saturday to Tuesday, in the provinces of Boulemane, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Midelt and Taroudant.
