Six activists have been installed in plane trees, since Thursday, December 26, in front of the town hall of Capbreton, according to France Bleu Gascogne, to protest against the construction of the 400,000 volt very high voltage (THT) line between France and Spain .
Inspired by the actions against the A69 construction site in Tarn, this mobilization is led by “climbers from Aquitaine”, adds France Bleu Gascogne. The action is coordinated by the environmental movement Extinction Rebellion.
The activists, who take turns, are equipped with ropes, hammocks, tents and banners, and are preparing for a “camp for an indefinite period”Agence Radio France learned from the Landes Aquitaine Environnement association. “The gendarmes are present occasionally as observers”adds its president.
Around forty organizations (Collective of climbers of Aquitaine, Attac Aquitaine, XR Landes, Soulèvement de la Terre Aquitaine, Collectif Stop THT 40, etc.) opposed to the current route of the THT line, but not to the project, have sent a letter on Friday to François Bayrou, the Prime Minister.
They ask for a “immediate moratorium” warning of the consequences “disastrous for the route of this project”, “an ecocidal route not validated by the National Council for the Protection of Nature, the only scientific and technical experts involved in this matter”.
