Homelessness Forum: January 30 to February 1

43m² was born in 2022, in the Canton of Vaud, following the failure of the cantonal emergency accommodation system and the low-threshold system.

A system in which there is a lack of overnight reception places, and where the associative network which takes over is exhausted, both financially and structurally.

A system in which, in 2023 and in Lausanne alone, social workers had to refuse a bed to 11,725 people, due to a lack of available places.

In this context, 43m² is mobilizing to put pressure on the Canton of Vaud and all its municipalities to commit to the fight against homelessness and extreme precariousness.

To address these demands and explore the themes linked to them, 43m2 in collaboration with the HETSLthe HESFR and the Sociocultural Center Pôle Sud invite you to participate in the Homelessness Forum which will take place from January 30, 2025 to 1is February 2025.

With the support of the Swiss National Fund (FNS), this intercantonal and international event will bring together in an unprecedented way social workers, elected officials, representatives of public administrations, researchers x s, journalists, members of the associative fabric, activists, people experiencing homelessness and all people interested in the theme. The program includes conferences, round tables, screening-debates, workshops, stands and exhibition spaces.

While in most European countries, research on homelessness and housing exclusion has produced a large amount of knowledge and action for more than twenty years, it has only recently started in Switzerland. romande. This relatively recent research reveals the extent of the phenomenon and describes its regional dynamics. They make it possible to understand homelessness as a social and structural problem, going beyond the simple addition of individual cases by referring to the political and social mechanisms that produce it.

In this context, it seems urgent to develop synergies between the different actors in the field. Also, the Homelessness Forum aims to disseminate recent research results on homelessness and encourage dialogue between scientists, (future) professionals in the field, members of the associative fabric, elected officials, civil servants and interested parties. By proposing a multidisciplinary, intersectoral and inclusive approach, the event aims to promote dialogue and collective action focused on the conviction that a roof is a right.
