Is culture in danger? In 2025, many French regions have decided to reduce the budget allocated to Culture. According to cultural stakeholders, this decision endangers the sector, including cultural meditation which has enabled the reintegration of many people.

More than a cut, it is a severe cut in the Culture budget that the president of the region voted for last week: less 62% of allocation for 2025. A brutal announcement with serious consequences according to Aymeric Seassau, deputy mayor of and delegate for culture: “The impacts will be very numerous in the performing arts in particular. But I am also thinking of the cinema events which could be very affected. It is estimated for the city alone of Nantes has a shortfall of more than three million euros for Nantes cultural actors.”

And the Pays de la Loire region is not the only one to sacrifice its cultural budget: minus 27% in Île-de-France and between minus 5 to 10% in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Restrictions which will have direct impacts on jobs and structures but also on a less quantifiable data: cultural mediation.
