There are men in this world whose talent goes beyond the limits of a discipline.
Louis Pasteur is one of them. Benefactor of humanity, famous throughout the planet for his scientific discoveries, he notably bequeathed to the world the vaccine against rabies (1885). Born in 1822 in Dole, attached to Arbois, Louis Pasteur remains one of the greatest French scientists. But behind this reputation of a scientific career, hides an artist Louis Pasteur.
Brilliant scholar, excellent artist!
“People don’t know this side of Pasteur,” rightly confides Philippe Bruniaux, before explaining in his book that “The artist Pasteur is a bit like Pasteur before Pasteur. In his drawings, it is already possible to detect a real mastery in action. From 1834 to 1844, the teenager was passionate about art: charcoal, graphite, pastel and lithography. »Pastor, an unsuspected artist? An artistic career which ended prematurely to give way to the career we know today. And a man also close to certain artists. He was sensitive to art!
Philippe Bruniaux, president of the Pasteur, Arboisien heritage association, embarked on this exciting adventure. That of bringing together as many pictorial works of Louis Pasteur as possible. He drew around thirty portraits, including pastels. Reproduced in this work, everyone can see their quality of execution. A talent that he then put to good use in his scientific career. “An exhibition to bring together the paintings presented in the book should take place in the coming years,” reveals Philippe Bruniaux.
