As 2024 comes to an end, it's time to look back at what made the news on Objectif Gard this year. In May, a departure, that of Julien Sanchez from the town hall of Beaucaire, an election, that of the queen of Arles, an appearance, that of the Northern Lights in the Cévennes, and a continuation, that of the Crocos.
Surprise ! On May 1, after ten years at the head of Beaucaire town hall, National Rally mayor Julien Sanchez announces his departurebecause he appears in 17th position, i.e. in an eligible place given the expected score for the RN, on his party's list for the European elections of June 9. At the same time, Julien Sanchez announces the name of his successor: Nelson Chaudon, 31 years old, the same age that Julien Sanchez was when he was elected mayor of Beaucaire in 2014. If he is no longer mayor of the fourth town in Gard, the now MEP has chosen to open his parliamentary office in Beaucaire, right next to the town hall.
On May 8, Arles appointed its new queen: Amélie Laugier becomes the 25th Queen of Arlessucceeding Camille Hoteman. Among the very strict criteria to qualify for the election, candidates must be aged 18 to 24, be familiar with Provençal customs and culture, but also… be single and remain single for the entirety of the term. reign. Representing Provençal culture and traditions has to be earned.
Another thing that is worth it: seeing the Northern Lights. This year in spring, we were able to see them in our regions, and Objectif Gard told you in mid-May the story of this Alesian photographer, Mateusz Pietrzak, who waited hours and climbed Mont Bouquet to see and immortalize this rare phenomenon here. Good luck to him, given the quality of his photos.
Always in May, there were those who went up, like the young Alesian actor Malik Frikah the steps of the Cannes Film Festival for his role in “L'Amour Ouf”, by Gilles Lellouche, and those who avoided going down, like the Crocos by Adil Hermach. Nîmes Olympique, on the verge of a new sporting relegation, finally saved his place in National 1 on May 10 thanks to a great 4-2 victory against Sochauxwith a hat-trick from Freddy Mbemba. Phew.
It was something to celebrate during the Alès and Nîmes ferias, and we can't resist the urge to give you the best-of unusual images from the two events, ici et To be. Images, they would have liked to have taken, that evening at the Nîmes arenas: at the very end of May, we learned that local photographers would not have photo passes for the Eric Clapton concertopening the Nîmes Festival. In response, local media, including Objectif Gard, chose not to cover the concert. Finally, it is better to take photos of the Northern Lights.
