The defendant, 47, placed in pre-trial detention since the trial was postponed on November 21, was tried this Thursday, December 26 by the Lons-le-Saunier court. On November 18, this Dolois man was caught stealing a scooter in the Jacques-Duhamel high school. It was two supervisors from the establishment who intercepted him before he could escape on the handlebars of the electric machine. Although he can hardly dispute these facts, the man assures, in court, that his act was ordered by a third person.
“I only went there once”
He is also accused of a similar theft, committed 3 days previously. And a high school maintenance worker claims to have recognized him. “Oh no, I only went there once. He must have confused it,” maintains the defendant.
These offenses are not the only ones for which the man was tried. Last March, he tried to force the lock on the front door of an apartment, still in Dole. The police caught him with a screwdriver, a barrel and pliers. Here again, he attempts a pirouette. “It was to lock me in the boiler room where I slept.”
Pair of glasses and pens
Finally, in February, he stole a pair of sunglasses and three pens from a parked car. A witness reported seeing him trying to open several vehicles. The open window of a van allowed him to carry out his theft.
The president of the court took a long look at the defendant's full criminal record, tinged with multiple break-ins. His complex personality was also mentioned. The doctor who examined him also concluded that the serious psychiatric disorders from which he suffered could have impaired his discernment. The public prosecutor asked the court to take this aspect into account.
He was sentenced to 4 months in prison. His continued detention was ordered until the sentence enforcement judge decides on adjustments.
In accordance with our editorial charter, the names of defendants are not mentioned for sentences of less than one year in prison with a committal warrant or two years in prison without a committal warrant.
